Those are Katydid eggs and all you need to do is hand remove them. The adults are considered a minor pest and not really worthy of 'ERADICATION.

Minor pest? Not here! They will devour a whole plant in a heartbeat!

Katydids are not very social insects and do not gather in large groups and while they do eat plants they are also carnivores and eat other insects.
If you are seeing some similar insect devouring a plant it most likely will not be Katydids

Wow, thanks for posting! We have lots of katydids here but I've never seen their eggs. Now I'll be on the lookout. I've never seen any significant damage from these insects in the 30+ years I've been gardening here and always enjoy their late-summer evening serenade.

I rarely see them but do hear them once in awhile. Their 'music' is a favorite of mine.

Come to think of it, my children were never so fond of their song ... it reminded them that the end of summer and the beginning of the school year were nigh. :-)
