white grub? worms in trees

In our yard we cut down an oak tree in 2002. The tree was cut into sections to dry out so we could burn it in our woodstove. Recently we used a log splitter to cut the sections into normal size to fit into our woodstove. While doing that we found lots of white worms buried inside the dried out wood that appear to look like grub worms found in the ground. They measure about 2" long by 1/2" to 3/4" thick - about the size of your little pinky on your hand. What kind of worms are these and should we be concern?
