A dilute bleach solution (1:9 or 1:10) is a perfectly satisfactory disinfectant for surfaces and pots - it is recommended by various extension services and used extensively in commercial greenhouses. But be sure to rinse thoroughly with clear water. And avoid using around any actively growing plants.

And avoid using on tools. It can be corrosive over time. Hydrogen proxide or rubbing alcohol is preferred, but again rinse thoroughly, dry, and then apply a light coating of horticultural oil or ArmorAll.

i buy the god awful cheapest bleach i can find ... U-smell or some such...

and dilute it 9 cups of water to 1 cup of bleach ...

i use the sponge to wipe down cutting surfaces of tools if i am using the tools in some sterile situation ...... rinse in water ...

never in my life.. have i read the label to determine the strength of the bleach.. but since it is the cheapest ... i presume its the weakest ...

if the mix feels slightly slippery.. good enough for me.. then i put on the rubber gloves to do the work ...

Most all of the bleach products on store shelves now is Sodium hypochlorite, a more stabile product then the Chlorine used in the past. Sodium hypochlorite has about 35 percent Chlorine and is still diluted to the 3 to 5 percent mix you see and you can still dilute this to 1 part "bleach" to 9 parts water and have a very effective disinfectant.

I buy Clorox Concentrated (I think) bleach at around 9% for swimming pool sanitation. It's not 3x more expensive than regular Clorox. You can dilute it as needed.
