are these eggs? a fungus? help please!

I bought my Majesty Palm about a month ago and it was doing fine until the first time I watered it. I've seen these black egg-like things on the stem. Not so many on leaves. And theres gray fuzzy stuff too? Does anyone recognize this? The leaves have shriveled an died. there are hardly any leaves left.

It's hard to tell what you have. Eggs are usually white or tan. Can you just wipe them off with a cloth?

I can't make out what they are either. Might be aphids, might be mealy bugs or even wooly scale. The thing is, if there aren't many leaves left it may be best to chuck the plant. If there is a guarantee, isolate the plant and let the seller know.

The picture isn't a great one for ID purposes, but I'm guessing that they might be aphids. Google to compare and let us know.

I finally got up close enough to see the legs! Then I googled aphids. They are most definitely aphids! Thank you for your help and yes they do wipe off pretty easily.
