Something Chewing My Irises!

I have discovered, unhappily, that something is chewing my irises. The spots look like caterpillar spots, but I thought it was too early for those guys to be hanging around. My other bulbs have started sprouting, and I am worried about them being attacked. Who is doing this, and how can I stop them! (Organically?)

You'll need to know what it is in order to know how to treat. Can you go out after dark with a flashlight and take a look - night feeders should be present then. Start just after dusk falls, and you may have to make more than one trip.

Slugs/snails are active almost all round here, how about there where you are? The only thing else I find damaging iris here are weevils - they leave sharper edged notches going from foliage edges inward.

any chance of posting images of the damage?
