cool damage? What to do?

Hi,

What a great forum is this. I hope you understand my not so good english.

I bought a 3 year old plumeria last summer but it didn't flower. It has 3 branches, like a fork. It is overwintering in a greenhouse by temperatures between 40-50 degrees.

Now there is since 1 week, at 2 branches, a softy area, about 1 inch below the tip. The tip is still green and glossy.
The color of the softy area is a little grey and is about 1 inch long, all around the branche. I also noticed that the spots, where the leaves were atached to the branche, are black in this area.

Is this cool damage and must i cut it now, or shall i wait till the temperatures rises again?

Thanks, emenbritt

It is difficult to say. It could be cold damage. Can you post a picture??

40 degrees is a bit low for plumerias if they remain that cool for a long time. Is the greenhouse warmer during the day?

Have they been getting some moisture? There are many other factors. I had one that got a weird spot about 4 inches down from the tip, but it eventually dried up and is OK. I think it burned from being too close to a light source but not sure.

40F is too cold, 40C is too hot. best is 70-85F or 29-30C. You may want to stick a pin in the soft spot and pinch easily. If black oily stuff comes out get cutting, but if white or nothing comes out wait. by the way your English is excellent. Bill

Hi,

Thanks for the info.

I have put the plummie in our loft now. There is the temperature around 62 F day and night. The plummie still have a few (brown) leaves.

I sticked a pin in and there was nothing coming out. I watch it carefully the next days.
