i want to grow plumerias!

hi first off im on my cell phone (no internet access)

anyways i recieved some seeds in a trade, "mixed plumeria seeds" and i would like to know how to germinate them. there are only 5 seeds.

what are their hardiness zone? i am 7b or 8a depending which map you ask.

can they survive as a houseplant in zone 7/8?

Send me an email and let's see about gettin you started with a cutting too! ;-). Seeds are fun , so keep them sowed on a heat mat and do a search on this forum. Kim and Emily posted a great thread about seeds .

I will be more than happy to send you a cutting to get you started this spring,,,

If you want to grow plumeria you are certainly in the right place - and plumie season is just around the corner so the forum will get a lot more active then!

In the mean time, like Laura said, if you search 'plumeria seeds' or 'rooting cuttings' and also just nose around you will have A LOT of reading material to get you started, but if you have any specific questions of course feel free to ask.

I just ordered some more seeds too! I ordered mine from Brad's Buds and Blooms - they have a large selection of seeds and rooted plants as well, take a look when you have time.

Depending on where you live (not sure by the zones, it varies so much) you will have longer or shorter growing period, however a plumeria will always do significantly better as an outdoor plant.

Whether a seed or a cutting, the main things you need aside from water and sun are well draining soil and heat.

Seedlings are not the same as the plant you got the seed from, regardless of if it looks the same or not - many look like the parent, many do not. This is exciting because of the possibility of getting something completely unique.

With cuttings, this is the only way to get the exact same plant regenerated / genetically identical. Many tried and true varieties are propogated this way so that you know what you're getting - growth habit, scent, flower colors, etc.
