tdogdad. how often should I water planted trees?

Hi Mike. I have talked with you in the past, but have not had time to check the forum for many months now. Just this month I had my husband plant six of my plumerias into a new planter that he built. Two are Singapore WHites (obtusa) the others are rubras. The planter is getting full sun, and it is against a block wall. How often should I water? I have never had one planted in a planter before. The dirt is good dirt, and should be draining well. I am afraid of watering too little, or too much. As it is, my plants seem to be confused this year, with all the warm weather we have had this year. Some of my whities are losing leaves, some rubras never lost all of their leaves from last year!

go to a nursery and buy a cheap water meter and stick the probe deep into the planter and water when it reads between moist and dry. Without leaves, keep them on the dry side. As leaves grow increase water to match the number of leaves. You will be surprised how slowly a large planter dries out. Bill
