My Plumeria has a hole in it?

Hello,

I have had my plumeria for two years. I brought the stem home(Phoenix, AZ) from our trip to Hawaii and put it into a pot right away. I used regular potting soil mixed with rocks. The first summer about 4/5 leaves grew then fell in winter. I brought it in for the winter and didnt water as much. Normally I would water every few days in the spring/summer. I noticed my plant wasnt growing taller so I repotted it into a larger 15 inch pot with cactus/shrub soil, rocks, and regular plant soil. I noticed the roots were about 6inches long and didnt look discolored or smell weird. There are still no leaves and now I noticed a hole on the side of the stem and I really need help saving this plant. I attached photos of my plant.

I dont know much about plants besides what I Google so I need proper steps on how to save my plant. I hope I can save it because it means a lot to me. Thanks for your help!
