Do you think I should be concerned?

I have 4 cuttings that recently were purchased from one of our guys in HI. 3 just came in the past week and the other one, I have had for a month. All are completely dormant, including the one that has been in the greenhouse at work for a month. No sign of any activity in that one. I took photos with my cell phone that turned out badly, but I do have this one I am going to post.

I'm just wondering if it would be normal for cuttings to come out of HI still in dormancy. And why would the one that I've had in a hot greenhouse not show signs of something by now?

I have bought a lot of cuttings from this guy but I have never had not one ever come that was completely dormant. And 2 of the 4 has tips with an inch or so that is skinny and very brown. 2 of them still seem green at the tip.

Worry, or not to worry? Can you tell anything from this pic?

If the bark is still green they may still be OK.

I decided to post this pic, too. If our camera wasn't so technical, I would get it out and take better pics. And my hubs isn't home to do it for me. Yeah, it's green below but don't know if you can tell how brown that inch of tip is.

Well, upon preview, the tip looks more green than what it actually is.

Hi Mona,

It is hard to tell with the pic, but the stem looks good to me...

Most of my trees are coming out of dormancy, but I have a few that are just naturally slow to wake up.

I have one that does look like yours in the pic and I checked the claw to see it it had white latex. It did and I'm just leaving it alone.

I recognize that tag.. So you know it's a good seller!!

a lot of my smaller plants look just like that! I don't remember if they looked that way last year coming out of dormancy? Now that I think about it, I wonder if I should water them yet or wait until they wake up THEN water??

What have you been doing? I think we just need a warm spell to wake them up.

If is not soft at the ground level, leave it alone. If the tip has not gone black and squishy then leave it be. Nothing you do will improve the situation. Most things you do (water, dig, pull, etc.)will usually do harm. Let it be and be patient. Mother hens are plumeria killers.

Hey Mona,

If they are coming from Hawaii then it will need time to acclimate. Since Hawaii is closer to the equator the temps and day light hours are different. Your Hawaiian plumies may need longer amounts of light to get going, well more then nature in North Carolina is allowing for March. Try adding a grow light over them before it starts to get dusk and leave them on for the recommend amount of time and see if that helps.
