If the weather is favorable I would stick them outside. I germinated 8 of my own seeds last summer. They met the sun as soon as they came out of the dirt. I think it is best for any full sun plant to see the sun as soon as it sprouts. that way you dont have to harden them off or risk sunburn.

Hi Mike, thanks for your reply. I'm in Uk and the weathers not great so I shall put them on a south facing windowsill and the greenhouse on sunny days till they can go in there for the summer

Averil, congratulations! You're going to love growing them from seed! I found they're pretty easy once they've sprouted. You could just put them in a sunny window now.

My only precaution with my seedlings in the first few weeks was to water with some hydrogen peroxide splashed into the water, or just to spritz them. I lost a few to damping off otherwise. Once they reach about two- to three-months-old they're pretty tough.
