What i do and others as well is let the cut end of the cutting sit somewhere fairly humid and warm to allow the cutting to callus a bit. There are many ways to achieve this but it is very crucial. Sounds like you have already potted it so you can probably skip this step because it may have already callused a bit.
After that put in a good draining mix and water one time. After you have a couple new 1/2 to full size leaves you can start to water a little. New leaves usually mean new roots. Without roots it has no way to take up water so water before then can lead to rot. This is why I and others will use clear water bottles to start the cutting. It is easy to see when you have roots.
Put the cutting in bright sun but you may want to put a paper towel or toilet paper rolls around the cutting to help with sunburn.
After you have 3 or 4 full size leaves its a safe bet that it is rooted nicely and you can start watering as needed.

I have always used the "pea gravel method". Water well once when you pot it and then wait until you see it start to leaf out.

In Arizona you may want to root in shade to be safe. The cuttings with no leaves burn easily at the soil level, especially with pea gravel at the base.

Don't water but feel free to mist the stem as often as you like. They like a lot of humidity. Good luck!

I am in Arizona and I have 6 cuttings that I am currently rooting. There are a lot of different ways to root cuttings but what I did was dip the ends in rooting hormone and then plant them all in fresh cactus mix. I have mine on the patio totally out of the sun and mist them every day with a spray bottle of water since its been so hot here lately. Do not water the soil until you see true leaves which can take 1-3 months. If you have any questions, please ask. They are really easy plants.
