I have a few reds doing the same thing but I decided to leave them alone for this summer. I'm hoping one more summer will give them enough root growth so they will flower next summer. In two years it's only grown about 3 inches. Hope someone can give you better advice but I'm leaving mine alone and hoping for the best next summer.

I would leave it alone. Some can take up to a year (!) to root, and it will have a better chance if left completely alone. Hide it from yourself and forget about it.
