I think I need to slow down, and smell the Plumeria

Well you sure made me think. I am just going to get the plants I still want, Lurine, Penang peach and Raspberry Sundae, and the ones I ordered. I think I have enought plants, I just need to sit back and watch them grow. The plants I got the first part of April from Florida Colors two are already blooming. I think the climate is great to grow plumeria. I have the space to have plants as big as VW's. Next year instead of buying plants and making plumeira soil. I will start making new plumeria flowerbeds. Next year the seedlings will bloom, I can decide which ones I want to keep. I really do expect to see beautiful plants from Larrys seedlings. Barbra

Somedays I feel the same. I still want to add a few classics. Of course if something special or too good a deal comes along im sure ill have a hard time resisting it. Mine will always be in pots so my only limit will be if I can move it. I have a huge warehouse I can store them so for me when to stop adding will be the point where moving them twice a year becomes a problem.

You're right though about enjoying what you have. Just this morning I was out drinking coffee and I looked at the huge bloom cluster on my desert sunrise and just thought "what an awesome plant". Sometimes we take for granted what we have for the pursuit of what we want. At least I know I do.

    Barbra,

You are so right... It is like the sign that was a gift to me...'Take Time To Smell The PLumeria"

I try and follow this.. and i do hear what you are saying..

When i went to the Flower show in Philadelphia this spring, my DH thought i had lost it.. They only had Noids cuttings and i didnt bring home anything.....

Then came Ebay..lol I have mavy a couple left and then "I am done"...

    Until nest year... :)

My Daughter wants to know where the baby will stay when she visits? This was the room that the Plumeria would stay in during the winter.. HMmmm? I think i might have a huge guilt trip..especially when i say that she need to bring the portable crib so that "he" can stay in their guest room! LOL.. Did i tell you that im going to be a grandma in Sept? Yep.. it is going to be a boy!!!

Good to keep it under control..i am really trying especially that the DH is watching now for the sound of the diesel truck..LOLOL

Stay strong.. It is a good thing to stop and enjoy!!!

    Way to grow!!!

Congrats Laura !!! Babies don't take up much space and you can always put up the port-a-crib in the living room. "LOL" It's when they get older they need more space, and maybe a room. I think mine won't be able to sleep overs, unless it's on the couch, as the plants may have their room this winter. Well they can have sleep overs in the summer. :) Peg

    Thanks for starting this Barbara.

Congratulations Laura...you'll have to teach your grandson to help care for "grandma's plumeria" :)

I'm learning to incorporate the plants that I love. So this year my motto is "life is not a bed of roses, but roses, plumerias and fragrant plants make life better".

    Happy growing everyone.

I think I should as well... and take a break from buying! Easier said than done with so my on my Wishlist.

Laura, congrats on your new grandson. How exciting! The babe won't need a whole room... I would just let him sleep on my chest. LOL. Our babies did for the longest time and they are not too spoiled. :)

Laura, congrats! Glad that you are even concerned with where to put your grandson, my parents don't really like to deal with a baby, they prefer a child that can communicate needs.... needless to say they don't garden.

    Kms- Genius. So funny.

I am with you all, acquisitions are wonderful, but I have to remember that last plant I got I was just as excited about, and now it is just there soaking up the sun and growing.

I adore my collection and just want them to be happy and healthy. I have a beautiful deck lined with trees, several planted around my property, I am a proud mama. No need to acquire everything this season, and just like Barbra says, I want to focus on landscaping and creating appropriate space to plant my trees.

    Cheers,
    Wendy

Barbra, your post rings so true about appreciating what you have. But, boy, is it hard not wanting more if you hang around here!

Right now I'm patiently (yea, right) waiting for my Pu'u Kahea inflo to grow into full size buds. ;)

And, OMG as I type I'm watching a hummingbird sampling the last flowers on Lemon Drop! Delightful!

    Barbra-
You are so right! I find this reminder very helpful. I love the plants that I have and I need to take the time to appreciate them and all their beauty. I also need to remember what a pain it will be to store all of them this winter... where to put 25 trees?!?

Mike- "Sometimes we take for granted what we have for the pursuit of what we want"... I do too!

Congratulations Laura!!! That is so exciting!

Thanks again Barbra. Once again, this forum is the voice of reason, temperance, and inspiration.

Barbra - I think Mike worded it beautifully!
Sometimes we take for granted what we have for the pursuit of what we want.

One thing I've noticed about myself, in the beginning of my plumeria frenzy, was that I liked a certain flower color. Then suddenly I had several that will be very similar in color. And before that I was trying to recreate a scent that my husband liked.

Finally I have a handle on it. My desires, I mean, so my very long list is much different now. LOL

Seriously, Jen has sent some of the seed to me. I will very much enjoy growing seedlings. It's very exciting waiting for them to get here. Thanks Jen!

Laura - congrats on the upcoming birth of your first grandson! (I have 3. Trees are less worry. Yes, I said LESS worry) :)

I just smell the flowers while planting new ones!
After Ike and 2 horrible, horrible winters almost every single plumeria on the island died, some were over 50 years old. Now I don't want to put them in the ground but they do so well here that I relented and started sticking them back in ground. Not to mention they get too big to drag in and out.
Addiction is a terrible thing, I have yet to find a 12 step program. My latest addiction is citrus and the garden center has them for 70% off woo-hoo!

    congrats on the new grandbaby!

Tally are you going to the Rosenberg PSA Sale on Saturday, I am planning on going. I hope you will be there, I would love to finally meet you.

Congrats on the 70% off citrus sale. Its great to get a good bargain. I stopped going to the nursery when the weather got hot. I am just trying to keep what I have alive. Barbra

I'll stash the citrus under the trees in the back and then plant them later. I have to work waaaahhhh! And there is absolutely noone to replace me we are so short handed. If you can convince people not to poison themselves on Saturday.
I dug up my kumquat I planted this spring and sent it home with my sister, she has been whining for 2 years wanting one, she lives in Delaware.
We've had a ton of rain this year. It's raining right now again.
I planted buddhas hand, blood orange, tangelo, that giant lemon, key lime, thornless mexican lime, pineapple orange to go with the kaffir lime, pink lemonade, orange, grapefuit and lime trees already back there. I do NOT have an addictive personality. Those hackberries won't live forever and the next storm will take down the pecan tree, if I don't first.

Sounds like you have a fruit salad in the making in your back yard. I'll try to wear something unusual, so you can spot me. Maybe a peacock feather. Barbra
