Armstrong Nursery surprise

So, I was checking out the plumeria at Armstrong today, and they have a bunch of new cultivars from a new supplier called "Tom's Plumerias". There were quite a few that I was surprised to see (these were in a mix of 2 and 5 gal pots, for the most part):

- mele pa bowman

- JL red

- JL pink

- bill moragne sr (also marked "moragne sr #9")

- Jean moragne

- daisy wilcox

- lei rainbow

- celadine

- pink parfait

- matsumoto white

- kimi moragne

- lavender splash

- Jean moragne

They were labeled as "classic", "collector's choice", and "limited". From what I could see, the limited edition ones were pretty expensive - $99 for a 5 gallon (sometimes only 2-3 tips), and $59 for a 2 gallon (I think). For those prices, I think I'd rather go to one of the growers/ plumeria nurseries directly.

Wow that's awesome! My local Armstrong carries only C-star and mostly in 1 gal pot. Nothing exciting. :(

I don't have that kind of "spare" money right now, unfortunately, so I managed to walk away (and back again, but eventually away again!). These plants *just* showed up, though, within the past few days ... This is the first time I've ever seen something other than C-stars there. There isn't a lot of info on the grower - only an address in Solana Beach: http://tomsplumerias.com/

WOW Toms stuff is more expensive then Marilynns Gardens stuff back in the day...

Tom is a local grower and supplies plants and $10 cuttings to the Armstrong nursery next to Carlsbad's flower fields. Nice guy, met him once. He says his cuttings come from well known varieties, but won't say which ones they are. His plants aren't cheap, but a much better variety than C Stars, and they all looked healthy and some were blooming. ...diana

I saw these at my local Armstrong (Sherman Oaks, CA)a few days ago and I was impressed! They are pricey though..

Last month I was at C Stars and was told that they have 50 new varieties for the future! It's about time! They'll probably be available next year.

About time is right - hopefully they are truly new plants and not just renamed varieties.

No, they will most likely be renamed varieties...but at least there will be more to choose from :)
