Amazing rooting success!

Hi all..

I wanted to share some incredible results that I've had with rooting cuttings with 110% success rate.

On my last trip back home to Hawaii, we collected a huge box full of cuttings from friend's trees to bring back home (after Ag inspection). Some of the cuttings were very hardy, while others were extremely soft and new growth.. which typically are much more susceptible to rot.

After starting with typical powdered Root-tone in a 50/50 perlite/soil mix, we had a number of fragile cuttings rotting at the bottom with others still lying dormant with zero sign of life. Not wanting to lose any, we looked for other solutions to help the process along.

We then found the holy grail of rooting: Clonex cloning gel.

After pulling the cuttings, re-cutting and re-dipping.. we had established roots in a matter of weeks.. and now after only a few weeks of leaves.. we have blossoms.

AMAZING. We pulled a couple of cuttings about a week or two after the Clonex to check on root growth.. and you could see how the gel had penetrated the bottom and literally puffed it out with life and roots exploding out of the bottom.

Fabulous! Where do you get the gel...our BIG nursery does not have it. I have 11 cuttings from Oahu in May that some are just sitting with barely pushing claws and others have big leaves. I realize some are harder to root and slower but this sure seems like it maybe brings the timing closer together. roxanne

If the cutting has been sitting for a while and the bottoms are rotted, cut up to where there's life and re-dip them in the Clonex. Cover the bottom 1"-1.5" of the cutting with the gel and make sure to get a nice snot ball worth on the tip as you put it in the medium. Only dampen soil when dry. You should see a reaction in the tips within a week or so as the hormone penetrates.. it's pretty amazing..

Your cuttings look amazing! Well I am known to kill cuttings so I would be curious to try as well.

Not I'll try the tats though... looks so painful! LOL.

I should add that I also soak the base of the cuttings in a small cup of hydrogen peroxide for a few minutes immediately following the trim. Shake off excess and dip straight in the Clonex..

I have Clonex but haven't used it yet since I still have a small amount of MX Clone Gel left. They are both about the same, both have IBA, the hormone that all rooting powders and solutions do. The Clonex label says it also has vitamin B-1. The MX Clone Gel just mentions "antibiotic ingredients" to keep fungus and bacteria from entering besides the IBA. The main thing about the gels I like is that it's thick, like honey, so it sticks very well to the end of the cutting.
