Just got back from the Big Island and have to report sightings of beautiful plumeria trees of every color along Alii Drive on the Kona side of the island. Once again I was able to talk my resort gardener for plumeria cuttings within the resort I stayed. Note: I did the same with request in Kauai last summer.
I thoroughly cleaned and gently packed the cuttings in my carryon luggage. Kona airport agriculture hardly glanced at them and said they were fine and gave my luggage the 'inspection passed sticker'. I'll wait till next week to bag root the cuttings, giving them more time to heal/harden the ends. I really do prefer getting cuttings from resort gardeners.... They know best what cuttings to give without ruining the shape of the trees. It's always a thrill to get the requested cutting, and a bigger thrill going through and pass the Agriculture Check. Whew. Cant wait to root my new cuttings and hope they thrive and bloom like their beautiful parent trees. ALOHA!
