Cutting advice - need help :)

Ok, this is sort of a follow up to my post about grafting ... this is the cutting in question. It has wrinkled areas (on the outside, these areas are browner than the surrounding tissue, and softer) at the top and bottom of the cutting:

So, I did an exploratory cut into the bottom, to see what's going on. The two slices look like this:

And here's the main cutting:

The areas under the wrinkled part look slightly darker than the surrounding tissue, but not by much.

Is this rot? or the beginnings of rot? Or just dehydration or something else? The cutting bleeds no latex whatsoever.

Should I go ahead and try grafting the healthy part (Because the firm section is in the middle, I would probably try and bud graft it)? Or just leave it alone?
