fee cuttings from hawaii trip

I have mentioned before about these 2 cuttings but now you can see and maybe help identify. The one on the right was from the landscaper at Wailea in '09. It bloomed for the 1st time last year, set a seed pod on that tip and now this year, each tip is blooming even though the seed pod is in place. The smell is suntan lotion and the leaves are very pointy and the tree was a prolific bloomer.

The one one the left is from last May '12 and from a nice man who had the most incredible tree down from the Doris Duke house a few miles on Oahu. I rang the door and ask "what is the name of this one" and he said every one always stops to ask...."go ahead and take one" ...the tree was covered in bloom and the smell is like tropical jam. So great that it has rooted and sent up a happy blooming inflo. These two are my now most priced for smell and color. Would love if someone could help I.D. mahalo, roxanne

OMG, they are both spectacular, Rox! Nothing jumps to mind about names, though. The left one looks a little familiar but the one on the right is quite distinctive. Lucky you!

Thanks jandey...this will be the last seed pod I will do. I thought since the main plant is so good...maybe the seed pod will be better than the last time I did it in '05 with a generic no big deal bloom. ???? what do you think? Darn, life is so short for seed pods! roxanne

I agree with Jen. These look like winners to me...and they have nice fragrance and are reliable bloomers? MUST HAVE in my book!

so now when we travel and look around, I notice which trees are really covered in bloom. I have a cutting the cook gave me in the parking lot at a DIVE in oahu with good local food...it is solid yellow and cannot wait for it to bloom as it was covered as well and smelled true Hawaiian.

If you just ask, they are so happy to give you a cutting and the airport guys (AG) okay it....gotta love that group of islands...roxanne
