| Here's another one, this one is brown, from yesterday. He's zeroing in on whatever that bug is that is chewing on one of the petals to the right. I also discovered that paper wasps also eat the bugs that attack plumeria's, that's their primary food source. Every now and then, I see one flying around close to the plumies. Delton |

Isn't it cool how natures creatures make us think of one another. I looked him up and best I can tell is its a gray tree frog. Never seen one like it around here before. I hope he sticks around. | How cute! He's wearing the same camouflage pants I bought for my grandson! Del - Do you have many PM's in your area? Around here I've only been seeing 1 or 2 a year. Wonder what's up with that? And what's really the cutest thing about this post.... that a guy can see a frog and think of a woman, and that same woman finds it a compliment! :) Laura - your little prince is cute, too :) |

| Same here, only see maybe 1 or 2 a year. That's why it was strange to see one stick around for a whole week. I'd check every morning and night to see if it was still there. About a year ago, there was an about 4 inch long one on the neighbor's window awning, the thing was huge! They're certainly interesting looking. Some nursery's sell them, along with Lady Bugs, for pest control, but I've never figured out a way to make them stay in just my garden. 8*) I love that tree frog, certainly an unusual color, almost like a toad. |

| Hi MIke, That is one sweet looking tree frog!! I have alwaysw loved frogs and i especially love the one who likes to keep an eye on me!!! He is always around and i can count on him being there everynight... : ) We all do have a special love for trees, nature.. I guess that is who we are and why we all come together so well. | I get a ton of mantids on my plumeria, along with lots of jumping spiders. I'm not much of a spider person normally, but I love the jumping spiders because they're so social and curious. | I don't have any pictures to share but I too have been having praying mantis on my plumerias and hibiscuses as well. Sometimes they will be green and sometimes they will be brown but they aren't little fellas like above, much bigger. Sometimes I will even spot a big grass hopper too. |

| Seems like a grasshopper could chew through a lot of flowers and leaves in a short time. |

| Love all the mantids, especially the colorful guy Delton spotted! I just get lots of these guys hanging around my inflos: They seem to do a good job as my TLD went from thrip-infested to clean in a few weeks. |

| Jen - I have those white spiders, too - they are white crab spiders. You can tell by the way they hold their front legs - spread apart like a crab. I've been trying to get a good picture of one, but they're pretty shy. I've also noticed the disappearance of thrips on the plants where they hang out. |

| I just bought a small Jeannie Moragne for my mother, and was keeping it until I next saw her. Well, it looks it got its own giant Plumie Protector (or perhaps the one from my previous picture has grown!) I wonder why the plumie protectors here gravitate to the Moragnes?

| You're not kidding. They've grown! There are several big ones now, and they seemed to prefer the Jeannie Moragnes and the California Sunset, until this big one moved in on the Celadine. Have two pics of this, but on this one, he's looking at the camera.

| Simi, I don't think that's Celadine, but it's much prettier, IMO. Celadine doesn't have an orange eye or pink on the buds. Very attractive white! No wonder your friend wanted to pose there. |

Actually, I am kind of bummed now. I have 3 of these I thought were Celadine. I had never really noticed the orange before, although when I look closely at a flower, it seems more of a shadow where less light hits the yellow as it goes down to the stem. Oh well, I love my plumies whatever they are!:) |

| Okay, well if you need to get rid of one of them, let me know. ;) The inflo stalks are also an uncharacteristic color for Celadine. But like I said, yours is much more attractive! That last Jeannie picture rocks, btw. I can see why you wanted multiples of her. |

| Jandie, thanks for being the one to break the news to me, it's better to find out from our group than to find out on the street! It is really beautiful, what I'm now calling my Celadine-adjacent (that's what the people near Beverly Hills call living close to it, adapted to my near-Celadine). I have three - a 6', a 7' and a 9'. My only concern is the scent - I always hear how wonderful Celadine smells - I'll have to go smell a confirmed on and see if I'm missing anything! Thanks for the compliment on the flower and pics, if you ever want a cutting of it, let me know! I know just where to find the mantises - two in different Jeannies, one in the Celadine-adjacent, and one in a California Sunset. They must think I'm paparazzi, the way I'm constantly taking pics (I have a ton at this point). But in my final plumie protector pics, below is my biggest plumie protector - a diligent, secret-service style bodyguard to a possible Scott Pratt and a Mardi Gras in the back:

| Awesome pix everyone! I too this year for the first time have noticed a lot of big Manti (plural?) in my plumies, and then a BUNCH of babies in my back yard on one group of plumies. But most of them rapidly disappearred, yet I did notice a baby the other day way in deep, probablyfor protection from birds. The spiders? Funny, I saw one this week and took a bunch of pictures. He moved really fast. In fact, there had been a beautiful web, but he moved in and it disappeared. Do they eat other spider webs? Also here is a picture of a I don't know what. I took a bunch of photos, trying to get a picture with his wings closed. But here you go! I had never seen one before.would love to know if anyone knows what it is?

| The spider appears to be a Garden Spider. They can make huge orb webs. There was a web in the driveway awhile back that spanned maybe 8 feet. And, spiders do eat their webs when they get ragged, kind of like recycling. LOL The other one appears to be some type of wasp. Kinda hard to tell from the angles of the photo. Nice coloring. |

| We first noticed this guy jumping from behind a window trim onto the ponytail palm to lick the water droplets when I would water it! Since then I've noticed another lizard like this one and a baby lizard on my plumies and a brown lizard on my seedling table!
Sometimes I don't notice them until we're staring each other in the face! |

| You guys are lucky, all I get is a mantis or some icky spiders. I love the little ducklings shot. It reminds me when I used to feed the ducks and geese on the river breed and ground up corn. I remember one time I was sitting on a log an one came up behind me and pecked me on the back -- it was wanting more food LOL. That little lizard is so cute! I wish we had those little guys around here. |

| I had no idea this would take off so well. its pretty awesome to see all our "protectors" Sadly for me I havent seen my protector since the day i took that photo. :( Laura, Your pooch is so sweet. I love labs. We have had 2. At work my boss and secretary bring their 2. So at work there is always at least four running around. My girl is great at keeping people out of the yard who shouldnt be there but all you need to do is give her a bone and you can come and go as you please, LOL Lexi here she is about 2006 with her sister Jasmine. Jazy passed away last year on October 14 mike |

| When plumie protecting gets too exhausting, and the plumie protector ducks are across the country, sometimes a young pup needs a break. Besides, the prating mantises told him he could take "10". In all fairness, I also have a pic of him standing guard in front of a California Sunset. Ill have to post that for balance! |

| Hi Everyone!! Love all of the pics.. Thanks Mike.. Saavannah is a wonderful dog. SHe is just a joy to have around. Im sorry to hear of the loss of your dear Jazy. She was and still is a beautiful partner. I also had a yellow lab and a black lab years ago.. I really thought of them seeing yours together.. sigh. They bring so much comfort and when they decide its time to leave us.. it hurts..deeply. They are our children too! Lets all give our dogs bones tomorrow!! LOL National Plumie Protector day!!! OK.. | My dog died last year, too, suddenly, so I have an idea of how much it hurts to lose one. He was my best friend, I'm writing a book about him. I've got two young dogs now, and I'll make sure to give them bones tomorrow. You never know how long you'll have them, but what they give you when they're here is so pure, so loving, and even so incredibly goofy. I think they laugh with us sometimes, we've evolved together for so long they sometimes know us better than we know ourselves. So here's to National Plumie Protector Day tomorrow! Laura, "SimiDude" could be confusing, because there's an "SMDude", too. "George" - there seem to be many Georges on this board, too! Maybe just "Simi" is best! I did gently move the orange spider today, to the much taller Lani's Beauty. His web was blocking my view of the Pop's Red*, and that's an amazing flower to block.. I think he'll like his new home and it should have even more bugs. I've seen the number of praying mantises grow and grow. We look at each other seven times a day, and happily co-exist. We should publish a Plumie Protector book, this thread is getting big! |

| Thanks, Laura And thanks, JPerilloux, I'm with you on the Jeannies. I temporarily have a Jeannie I'm giving my Mother, and it came from a cooler climate and is more a lighter orange and salmon and you see the veins more - and it's near the ones that have been through the heat that have much deeper, more saturated colors. Yet no matter the temperature effect, and how different the cool and hot temperature Jeannies look from each other, they always look spectacular and have a great scent and huge size. I have so many pics of Jeannies I have to hold back. And 4 out of 5 mantises seem to prefer them, too. |

| The Golden in the above pic is my 18 month old Maxwell, named for the Geico pig. We love those commercials! :) Ok, I have show you all my Quincy that we lost 20 months ago if I can find the pic through tear-filled eyes. He had a seizure when he was about 8 months old. The vet put him on phenobarbital but he continued to have cluster seizures occasionally. The last few months of his life they became more and more frequent until the last month he was having 1 or 2 a week. Then he just could not be brought out of it. Needless to say, we had to have him put to sleep. Here's Quincy's baby pic.
This is Quincy's grave that my plumeria is sitting on. And Maxwell also guards the grave. You'd think he would do the yardwork, too! |

| Check this out, another little frog.Found him in the greenhouse this morning. It was 22 outside and a nice 60 inside. Only thing this is one is protecting my citrus while the plumeria are sleeping. Pretty sure its not the same guy as before since my plants are now about 12 miles from my other place. Still pretty cool though.

| Mona, Im so sorry about your loss... it is a very painful time when we have to make that decision and or watch as these beloved companions have to be placed in a better place... I feel for you as others here have shared.. The pic of Quincy is just beautiful..those eyes!! You have a wonderful "plumie Protector.." I hope you have a wonderful New Year!!! Mike...
