rooting technique

i was told that if you make a vertical incision in your tree, prop it open with wedges, and pack it in wet peat moss, it will root. has anyone more info on this ? how long and deep an incision, about how much time before it will grow on it's own ? thanx.

I know that's called air layering (although often the outer bark is stripped in a band and that's wrapped in damp peat) and can be done with lots of woody plants. Don't know about plumeria but it should work. No authority here, just reasoning. :)

I agree with Cynthia, this sounds like a variation on air layering, which some folks have reported success with on Plumeria. I'm not sure about this particular technique though.
