silly ???? causing spousal argument

My husband blows off the deck once a week and all the dust/dirt/dog/cat hair etc. seems to collect then on my plumeria leaves. I get out the next day and spray it off with the hose. he says it doesn't bother anything, I think the plants need to breathe... so, which is it? roxanne

Hey Foxy Roxy, I know there's microscopic pores on the leaves that bacteria (good or bad) can take residence on. Henc the use of compost tea on leaves.....so good bacteria can occupy the spaces where bad bacteria would normally dwell & cause disease.

To me it would seem that it's probably not the end of the world........but all that dust must carry some bacteria with it, increasing your plants chance of infection.

    Just my 2 cents, I'm no expert.....lol

    Peace & Happy growing,
    Jason

    Rox,

I would feel the same as you... I would spray off !

Get those eye drops out... You will need to give him the whole bottle. Lol!

    Take care,

Thanks Laura and Jason, I like to keep all my plants clean. I know it sure builds up if I don't get to it the next day. Isn't that how the whole premise of"sprayNgrow" works...feeds thru the leaves?

I am getting ready for our annual Luau and get a little testy about how it all looks. Maybe the blower should go on vacation for a week or so? Mahalo, roxanne

    Rox,

I would be very upset too. No way he's blowing near my flowers! Breath or not I don't want all that junk on my plants.

But... we all know all the gunk that can collect on the deck and if it doesn't get blown off before it builds up, then little wisps of wind will blow that gunk all over your plants anyways.

So, I think the marital duties are in sync. He cleans off the deck, you spray off the plants. It all balances out for peace and harmony. :)

Wait! Is that sawdust on my plants?????
Now that's a whole nutter thing!

well, we got rid of the cat and all the orange fur balls that hung all over. The whippets hair is very tiny and short. Imagine having all that on your skin and running around all day. I have learned to BLOW before I snap a photo to post. Ah well, opposites do attract...??? roxanne p.s. forgot to mention all the SAND!!!!

Hi Roxanne, I would not be very happy about that also. I take a small spray bottle and spray the leaves that get surprises from the birds that fly over. If he does this the same day each week I guess I would be out the next morning spraying all of my plants. I might want to spray him also but that would not be nice. :) In any marriage you have to give and take but at least he is not leaving the deck for you to clean off also. Barb

Love all the comments. Water is so tight here in Ventura, Ca. that next year it will be on rationing of some type. He does not like it when I hose off the deck, so he blows and goes.

Speaking of water shortage, we even keep a big bowl to catch the excess water that would have gone down the drain when we are rinsing things off. Then that goes out to water plants. It is amazing how many times a day I take out water that would have been wasted. roxanne

Maybe you should buy him a shop vac so he can suck it all up instead of blowing it into the air. That is nicer for your neighbors who probably do not want your dust in their floors and lungs. I use my vac to suck up leaves and soil spills and then pour the tank into a pile to compost. Also, I keep two gallon empty plastic jugs so when I turn on the kitchen water to get hot water, I fill the jugs which is what it takes to get the hot to the kitchen. Then I dump the water into plants. Bill

Great Bill...I have mentioned the vacuum thing to him. I even use a 1 gallon milk jug to save the water as I get the bath water going. Amazing to see how much you can save when you try. We never turn our sprinklers on any more for over 4 years now. Just water what looks like it needs it. How is the water/ration in your area? Is it bad yet? The last time this went around, people were spray painting their lawns green up here. The stand-up will be in the water for the luau if you would like to come..... roxanne
