Plumeria leaves dropping and turning yellow

I've seen other posts but my plant does not seem to fall into most of these cases.

I have not over watered. It's been very hot in Orlando this summer. Do not know it that is an issue. The plant is approx 4-5 years old and in in the yard. It bloomed a month ago and and looked great. In the past week it has started to drop it's leaves. This happened about the same time last year. Every leaf came off the plant. It looked like a 4 foot stick in the yard last year but new leaves came in this year. I tried spaying with buy and oil spray. No help..

Any suggestions. Can it be some type of rust or mites

Seems to me your plant should be holding more leaves than it is, even this time of year.

Maybe you overdid it with the bug spray and oil? Or sprayed during the heat of the day, rather than in evening?

The plant is programmed to drop the bottom leaves up to the top in the fall to get rid of all leaves for the dry season in the Caribbean where it is from. This is a natural event and the dropping of leaves varies from variety to variety. Only a few are evergreen (Singapore, Mele Pa Bowman, Pink dwarf Singapore).

mine are already dropping leaves here on the Florida coast, as well. I call them 'stick plants' during the winter!! They'll be looking great in March or April, tho!

Wow, that explains a lot for me - I thought since there was still lots of time left for rain and heat they wouldn't be starting that this early in FL. Glad to know it's normal :)
