planting a plumeria at this time of year

Is is a good idea to plant a plumeria in the ground this time of year? I have a Key West Red that is getting too big for its pot(it keeps getting knocked over in every storm we have, taking a lot of plants on my porch with it. I can plant it in the courtyard of my apartment complex, and I think plumerias are best grown in the grown where they can grow to their full glory. I had heard the best season to plant them is spring or summer, but this plant doesn't get dormant till December or January, so I'm thinking it will still be ok?
