This makes no sense

I got a couple P. pudica cuttings a while back. I potted one up and decided to stick the other in a jar of water to see what happened. I wasn't that concerned about losing it as I only need 1 of each variety. It's been putting out new growth but no roots. The stem was still firm so I left it alone. It's been chilly, especially at night for a while now with the lowest temps in the low 40's. The plumies are still outside. I just haven't gotten around to stripping the foliage and putting them in storage yet. All of a sudden the pudica in water is putting out roots and the water is cold, even during the day. Is the pudica more cold tolerant then other varieties?

I thought they were less cold tolerent than other types of plumeria, but it seems I am mistaken. Is it still doing good?
