Wind broken branch

Last nights Santa Ana's broke off a six foot, multi-branched section of my Plumeria. I've read many helpful hints on dealing with the broken section, but I do still have 3 questions:

1. Is it better to replant the broken section as one "new cutting" or divide it into many smaller cuttings?

2. It is mid-October. Can I still plant this or do I have to wait? and if yes, why? (I'm located in Ventura Co, Calif, about 20 miles from the coast)

3. Do I need to do anything to treat, cover, or seal the wound on the mother plant?

Thanks so much for your help & direction.
