Hi! I just got 4 plumeria cutting that are wrapped in a moist cloth. The person who sent it had it planted in soil but they haven't rooted yet. What do I do now. I need directions step wise.

Kind of late in the growing season, especially in Canada, to start rooting plumeria. They usually go dormant in the winter anyway. They lose all their leaves and basically shut down until spring. You can keep them in a warm dry area of your home until then, and them start the rooting process. There may be someone in the group closer to your area who has experience in rooting during this time of year, or you could search the forum here for "rooting" tips. Best of luck with your cuttings!

If you give them enough indoor lighting under grow lights, and good warmth, they should root with no problem. I'm growing rooted plants, seedlings and cuttings under grow lights right now, and they are growing just like it was in the middle of the summer. In fact, the plants that started to go dormant in the Fall that were outside, reversed their dormancy and kept sending out new leaves when I put them inside. Good luck!

RE: New Plumeria Cutting

A couple of years ago I bought 3 cuttings on ebay. I was told to plant them in a soil and gravel mixture and not touch them for 6 months, not even to bump the pot.

When the wether got below 40, my instuctions were to very carefully bring them into the house and it didnt mater if there was light or not.

After 6 months I put them out [still in pot]and they put on the most beautiful blooms and leaves, they doubled in size..

However the next winter I was ill and they were forgotten and I lost them to the freeze
I hope this will help.
I would love to have some cutting and try it again, but can't afford the ebay prices with shipping and handling at this time.

Hi diggy! thanks for your advice. What kind of heating mat are you talking about. Is there special one for the plants or just the normal kind but that is big enough for one pot at a time. My pots are in front of the south facing window. I planted two cuttings per pot. I am thinking that if they stabilize I can then separate them in bigger pots in next summer. I watered them the first time when I planted them, now I just spray them on the top.
From where do you get your cuttings in Canada, I live in Edmonton and would love to have some but can't find any place in Canada. Thanks for the luck, I know I am going to need all of it and some more.
