How can I save this plant?

I have had this plumneria for nearly 10 years, a poster here from Texas sent it to me as a stick that her husband brought home from Hawaii. It only bloomed once, but it became an interesting house plant with several Y intersections, I guess b/c it spent so much time in the house, this year it did not adapt well to going back outside, and the leaves were often scorched. Unfortunately, it was not watered while I was out of town for an extended time. I came home to find all leaves in a pile on the floor. Out of its six branches, one seems to have pinched itself off and stopped decomposing. 5 fingers are pretty mushy.

Should I remove it from the pot and hang it upside down?

If I cut the stalks, below the area that is continuing to decompose, will that stop the process?

Thanks in advance,

Sandy
