Irma Bryant - cuttings

Hi forum,
I have a 'blood red' AKA Irma Bryant frangipanni in by my driveway. One of the branches was starting to get in the way, so I decided to cut it back.
It's spring here and the tips are just starting to break dormancy. I have them sitting upright in the shade at he moment, but i have heard that they are much harder to strike than the more common varieties.
Would i be best to try and get them going in a gritty mix or try and root them in water?

Thanks in advance,
Adam
