What are my options for a 'grow light' ?

The grow light will be used in my garage for my few plumerias, a jackfruit seedling, and some papayas.

Thanks,

I have T5HO and HID MH/HPS grow lights. I like the HID MH light for mature plants that I'm just trying to keep growing over the winter. I like the fluorescent lights for seedlings, young plants and the greenhouse and the HPS for flowering. For just a few plants you could get a 250 watt HID system fairly inexpensively.

Here is a link that might be useful: grow light guide

Great info on what Karen provided.

In fact the kind of light you choose will depend on what you are using them for..

Are you looking for astounding growth?
Are you looking for flowering?
Are you looking for vegative growth?
Are you looking just to keep them active?
Are you looking just to keep them alive?
Are you looking for addittional lighting along with the sun?
Are you looking for a light without any sun or natural light at all?

Once you figure out your goal, or need, then you can purchase a light that best meets your expectations.

They can be anywhere from 10 dollars all the way up to the hundreds..

There is also a forum on this site called "growing under lights" that might help you alot with choosing..I hope it works out for you..:-)

I am looking to find out if I can get a light fixture setup consisting of a arch floor lamp with 3 or 4 heads and buying grow light bulbs for it. My standard fluoresecent tube fixture is at my sister's house. I am not sure what kind of grow light bulbs I would need for wintering my plumeria. I want to extend their growth cycle. If I can achieve flowering potential with grow light bulbs that would be great. I am afraid about metal halide lights because they probably need special installation. I am looking to just stick some safe CFL light bulbs into an adjustable floor lamp for the sake of space and safety.

Moving to a tropical climate might be your best option. In this day of energy crunch, it may be wiser to relocate to a climate that you can grow things in than it would be to change your growing condition to match your plant.

Urszula,

I was wondering at some point i think it was you... i hope it was you!!! LOL You had said that you had found Pine bark fines here in VA. Can you tell me where you found them. I think you were on another forum and i am making my own mix, Gritty Mix as well as 5-1-1. I can find all ingredients, except its hard to find the right pine bark fines in the small size that is needed for the 5-1-1.

Thanks for any info...

What part of Va are you from?

Laura,

Sorry, it wasn't me that posted something regarding fine pine bark.

RFG,

I may be considering that at some point (re-locating). I am thinking about letting my mom "borrow" my plumeria plants when she goes to her house in Florida.
