I would make a clean cut, let it rest so latex sets for an hour then seal. I would use waterproof wood glue or tub and tile sealant ( dap) to seal the top of the cut stem. ( I like Elmer's waterproof wood glue). You can find it at Lowes in the paint section.

That should do the trick... I would also think those mice would be sick.. ;-)

Thanks for the advice! I'll have to check what kinds of glues and sealants we have. Didn't find any dead mice, but while we were cleaning and moving stuff I discovered that it also chewed through two bags of fertilizer, ugh.

I guess this means I won't be seeing any blooms on this one next year. I'm thankful that I kept a couple of my smallest and slow-to-root plumerias inside this winter!
