Looking for garden design sources

| Do you know of good online design sites? How about books you'd recommend?
With any luck, this will be the last year I'll use the current raised bed garden layout. If we go through with the house remodel, I'm hoping to create a larger garden within a fenced area when construction is over. I have time to think about it, but I'd like to start getting some ideas.

| I love the book The Art of the Kitchen Garden by Jan and Michael Gertley. Their designs are amazing and they also give practical growing advice. I have used this book to get ideas for my designs. Here is a link to the book on Amazon's site. You can see a few pictures there. |

| Thanks for the links, although they're a little too formal for my taste. southshore, through your Amazon link I found a book that's to be released this May. The cover photo is more along the lines of what I envision. Harper |

| Oh, yes Harper. I found that last night in my travels too. Looks fantastic! Any of Roslyn Creasys books on ornamental vegetable gardening can be of help with creative design and layout too. They are usually really inexpensive used. GGG |

Harper, Thanks for the link. I just might have to buy it but it might be too late for this year's garden! GGG, I think I'll check out Roslyn Creasy's books too. This is the perfect time to be looking through garden books as outside there is about a foot and a half of snow on the ground from yesterday's nor'easter! Adriene |

| Found this today on the Square Foot Gardening forum. After playing with it for just a few minutes I quickly realized I need to rethink planting habits if I decide to go with a fence around the garden. I'm used to access on all 4 sides of a bed. A fence would definitely change that. Harper |

| A book that I've found useful is called "The New Kitchen Garden" by Anna Pavord. Its subtitle is "A Complete Practical Guide to Designing, Planting, and Cultivating a Decorative and Productive garden". It is the book I turn to every time to help me visualize my garden. In the first part of the book, she gives an overview of various garden styles, with delightful examples and illustrations. The middle of the book covers cultivation of various varieties of fruit and vegies, herbs and edible flowers. The back of the book is about methods and planning, and even includes instructions for making a woven wigwam style tower. |

| The links you ladies have posted here are just wonderful! I've bookmarked each and every one! Thank you for the inspiration. In "Plans for Beds & Borders", you will find 42 designs for different climates and conditions. There are seasonal gardens, color gardens, theme and period gardens (I esp love the English Cottage, Apothecary, Shakespeare, Herb, Fragrant, and Kitchen Gardens). http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0897214722/ref=sib_rdr_dp/103-7396822-8383830?%5Fencoding=UTF8&me=ATVPDKIKX0DER&no=283155&st=books&n=283155 Becky |

| thank-you Southshoregardener for the correction!!! I am just reading "The Herbalists Garden". Although it specifically focuses on medicinal herbs, it has beautiful pictures of more wildly styled gardens, most which also focus on vegetables as part of the garden. There is a beautiful photo of a 1600's style Pilgrim raised bed type of gardening, edged in stones filled with green veggies, medicine wheel designs and an entire larger garden of pie wedge shaped beds with the narrower edges all facing in. This is particularly lovely if you have the space. It's also an overstock book so you can find it reasonably priced!! GGG |
