| I don't exactly have a potager but I thought this would be a good place to ask this question. I have a particular raised bed in a corner that borders on our very small patch of lawn. The lawn is watered by a sprinkler system. The lawn is my husband's "area" of our garden and he has this random method of watering at what I personally consider to be odd intervals. He pretty much obliterated last year's rose season when I found out that he had their water line going at 4 am. Doesn't matter. Anyway, my problem is that when the sprinklers are on they can reach into about 2 feet wide of my 4-5 foot wide raised bed. Normally I wouldn't mind help with the watering except that everything I read about beans and tomatoes say keep the leaves dry. I was thinking of planting something along the edge of the bed that reaches maybe 24' so that it could perhaps shield my veggies behind.
Any suggestions? Cosmos are easy around here, but maybe they are too airy to catch the light spray. Julie |

| Hmm aside from making him adjust those heads, you mean? ;) Seriously though--the issue here really is blocking light from the tomatoes and beans at the same time you're protecting the foliage from the sprinkler. I'm kind of stumped, to be honest. I am sure someone much more useful will come along soon though! |

| Could you expand your garden towards the sprinkler head? If so, your husband could adjust the sprinkler, so it isn't watering your garden, but he won't end up with a dead patch of grass. Some nice flowers would give you a potager feel and help attract beneficial bugs. My favorites are marigolds (helps tomatoes by keeping away nematodes) zinnias, alyssum, nasturtiums and stock. Alyssum is great for keeping down weeds between the veggies and has a great fragrance...I love the lavender/white combination :) |
