The best big gardens are usually great because the gardener learned lots of lessons in smaller gardens somewhere else. We moved to our present home six years ago. It was a wrench to leave my old yard, but I also left all kinds of mistakes and lessons and brought that learning along to this one.
Make your 4 x 7 bed the most fruitful, the most beautiful you can. Don't be afraid to dig it all up and try something new every single year. You'll get so much joy and so much knowledge from it that when your dream comes true for a bigger place, you'll be totally ready for it.
If you don't have a copy of The Bountiful Container, you should check it out. It's all about planting veggies in containers, and making them beautiful too. Kind of a Container-Potager book, if you will. :)

Those lessons learned and left behind are good ones. Been there done that. Hoping this time at our new house I do not make the same mistakes again.

What I am calling my potager garden is going to be 99 percent in containers. I can not deal with the nasty soil the containers are sitting on. I know all about amending soil. I also know my back will not take it. I thought part of the idea of a potager was the combination of veggies and flowers.

Update on mine. The snow is starting to melt. I can see the tops of the containers exposed. Yippppiiieeeee
