New Potager

Hello friends,
We have relocated to Long Island and have a completely different styled home. In Mass, I had a colonial and now I have a tudor. I want to build a potager this spring/summer but the great white picket fence enclosure that I had just won't go with this house. Any ideas? Also, my house sits sideways on the lot so my "backyard" is actually a side yard that can be seen from the street.

What about using split rail fencing? That's what I have and I love the look. I'm not quite sure what style a Tudor house would have.

How could you leave your last garden? It was so pretty.

I browsed Tudor and potager. It seems like formally laid out potagers in the English style are fitting. A brick or stone walled garden would be very cool but big bucks. Here's a couple of links that might be helpful. These both show hedges or thick vertical posts with some kind of trellising in between.

Another inspiration garden

Check out the slideshow for this garden. Would a hedge or possibly boxwood work in your location? Maybe a low stone wall.

Here is a link that might be useful: Potager

Michelle: Thanks for the links. I like the idea of metal/iron fencing. The hedging would work too. Lots to think about. Oscar de la Renta's garden is beautiful.

luvbocelli: I had a very hard time leaving that garden. I hope to create something just as pretty but not as big. Thanks for the compliment.
