Asparagus outside the fence?

I'm starting asparagus from seed this year in a nursery bed, but they'll have to move to their permanent home this fall or next spring. I was going to put them in a bed inside the fence, but then I read that they are fairly deer resistant...especially if you mix in some flowers and herbs on the edges and in front. The beds are at least 3' deep, so plenty of room.

Have any of you noticed if deer seem to be attracted to asparagus? I'd have more room for them on the outside of the fence, so I could have two beds about 12' x 3'. I'm trying purple and green asparagus, plus the parsley, marigolds and nasturtiums. What do you think? It would give me more space for a few things inside the fence :)
