drip irrigation

Hi,

I'm trying to set up a drip irrigation system in my potager. As you would expect, I have many small beds surrounded by paths. Does anyone have experience designing a basic drip system for a potager? I am not sure how many branches are possible off a mainline and all sorts of other technical details. I plan to hook it up to the hose from the house (with all the necessary filters and pressure regulators). I definitely want to have each bed controlled by a simple valve so I can control the amount of water for each type of planting.

A garden plan can be viewed from the link below. The shaded areas are the pathways and the white areas are the beds. I don't actually have Buffalo grass at this time. That area is mulch.

Sorry, I don't have any answers for you on drip irrigation, but it sounds like a good idea.

I just wanted to say great garden design!!! I hope you take lots of pictures :)

Thanks! A friend and I spent a few weeks measuring and planning the design. SO worth it! I really recommend planning, planning, planning when doing a potager. You can see other pics at my garden blog. (link below)

My garden is approx 40' X 40'. I took a roll of half inch irrigation pipe and wound it around to the beds I wanted to water. Then I bought a couple rolls of small tubing with drippers in it already. These I ran this through the beds and attached valves that could be used to shut off beds or areas if need be. There are lots of different drippers and connectors, valves, tubing etc. so you can customize your system anyway you want. I bought most of my pipe and connectors from Lowes. I will try to post a link to a picture of a bed that I was setting up last month.

The good folks at Dripworks will design your system for free. Haven't personally used it, but from what I understand you just fax them or email them the garden plan that you posted. They say that they will send you a quote with a layout of where all the drip parts need to go. If you don't like it, there is no obligation to purchase it.
