Squash plants growing across paths - help!

carol6ma_7ari

I didn't realize (not having grown them before) that butternut squash would suddenly send out big long leafy vine stems; and they are growing across my potager paths. Can't use wheelbarrow. They are in a middle bed, so there is no fence for them to climb. Can I put up a short fence along my bed edge, to contain them? Will they grow up the little fence? I don't think I should cut off the vines, should I?

The zucchini and acorn squash plants seem to stay in their areas. But maybe it's just a matter of time? (Jaws music...)
