Thanks for your help!

Hi there,

I've been lurking in the Meadow forum for over a year now and want to say "Thanks!" to y'all.

I'm starting a meadow under 3 fruit trees (2 apple, 1 peach) in our front yard:

-- last fall truckloads of wood chips and mulch were
dumped in the area. With some spreading over
newspaper the grass was smothered (I don't think
the trees appreciated so much over their roots,
but they're looking forward to the rye)

-- this winter (after clearing the mulch and compost)
I planted annual rye -- but LATE, so it just now
germinating -- looks cool, though

-- have planted daffodils and Muscari armeniacum

Will plant annual rye this spring and then sideoats grama and blue grama in the fall. And, am still looking over all of the comments on fav flowers. We have a lot of echinacea other places, so those seed will go in for sure. Crossing my fingers that this is the way to do it. . .

You've become a habit for me.

Thanks.

It will look great. I would suggest that you do NOT smooth out the curve if you want it to look like a true meadow and not something planted. Undulating or dagged edges are more natural looking. Otherwise, you might as well plant hybrid flowers and keep well manicured lawns.

Oxe-eye daisies would look great in there amongst short grasses, and a variety of Carolina wildflowers. I like that ridge. Very picturesque view. It will be lovely, especially when the trees bloom.

Please keep us posted on your progress. I have looked into this and just cant wait to see how you fare. Apple trees with meadow are something I have never had the privilege to see. Just love apple trees anyway
