My little experiment...bluestem

I thought I would give it a try and see what would happen if I sowed BBS into a couple containers, stuffed inside a baggie, and left in the back of the fridge for 1 week...well I took it out yesterday and put atop the entertainment center in West and North facing window...low and behold I've got grass growing in my house! LOL!
Don't know if I can keep it alive still spring, but was curious and winter board!!

At least now I know the winters-sown plugs I've got outside, will do just great!

I have yet to get big and little bluestem to sprout! I've wintersowed it, sowed it indoors like you did...and nothing! I planted a little mixed height prairie in my backyard this late fall...I hope it works better "out there", LOL! Good for you, though!

I don't know what I did! All I can say is that the ounce I have has sat in a box at room temp with the rest of my seed since last summer...I just sowed on medium and stuck in fringe for one week and them stuck in a baggie until I seen roots forming...I surface sowed and tamped.

Better luck this time for you I hope :)

Ahughes: Sorry, and surprised, to read of your lack of success with LBS. Collect fresh seed in fall and store dry in the fridge or other cool place until ready to germinate in late winter or spring. Sow into flats and just barely cover (no more than 1/16 inch) with sand or sifted soil. Keep warm, moist and well-lighted and you'll have a lawn of tiny baby LBS in two to four weeks. Clumps of seedlings can be divided and re-potted to grow larger before planting out.
