Showy Primrose really Shows

My wife and I have adopted a section of highway at an Interstate exit and we planted a one foot by 600 ft. of soil between the curb and sidewalk with a "southeast mixture" of wildflowers (Wildseed Farms). The first year most of the listed species came up, however, the second year half of the plot was filled with Showy Primrose(oenothera speciosa). The third year none of the other species bloomed and it was, a dense, 100% Showy Primrose. The fourth year all of the native weeds were gone too.

If you want a really beautiful display that last for weeks and needs little care (we spray once a season for flea beetles) try the Showy Primrose. After the first bloom is finished we mow the area high (about 5") and get a second bloom that takes over until the fall. After that we mow to 3" and wait again for the remarkable spring Show!
