Will Salix discolor (Pussy Willow) thrive in partial-shade?

It would only get some sun from an angle and full sun when the sun is directly overhead...

I planted several willows along a stream with great variations in sulight along the route. The willows with more sun did much better but some in the low light are still alive but not exactly thriving. Hard to say from my one experience what the reasons are but there it is for whatever it is worth.
