Clover trouble

I have a 1/4 acre second year prairie/short grass planting that has a
significant white clover problem. I'm starting hundreds of grasses and
other forbs in the basement under lights and that is going quite well.
My idea is to spot spray the clover with glysophosphate (dinner plate
size) here and there and after a couple weeks have gone by, install the
plants. I figure I'll do this each year and eventually get a leg up on
the bad guys. I realize that I'll lose some good guys in the process of
spraying but it seems to be the lesser of two evils.Does this sound
like a workable plan?
