Help with wildflower ID, please....

A lady gave my mother a little bouquet of cut flowers. I am curious to find out what the name of this one plant is. The lady that cut them said it is a wildflower called "avion" or "aveon" (don't know the spelling). I tried to find it on the web with those two spellings, but came up with nothing. I am wondering if this might ring a bell with anyone? BTW, it was found in NE-SD.

Sorry, no pic available.

It has sparse, fine leaves, and each cutting had three little raspberry colored "flowers" (in the shape of a ball with a tiny hole leading into the center of the ball---fine, delicate petals fold back from the "ball". Some of the flower stems had tiny, fine foliage---either starting to emerge, or that is the way of its growth.

Very grateful for any help.
