Mystery Grass

I'm making a meadow on a section of our property, and I've planted several native grasses - panic grass, love grass, purple top, plus lots of other wildflowers that typically grow roadside in this area of southeast Mississippi.

There is a tall grass that grows here and there along the railroad tracks - is it panic grass/Panicum virgatum? The panic grass that I planted doesn't show the white down the center of the leaves. Of course, what I planted was small, so maybe the white develops later?

It's blooming now - anybody know what this is?

The picture looks suspiciously like Johnson grass (Sorghum halepense), a noxious weed here in KS.

I think you're right, hortster!
I Googled it, and the pictures showed Johnson grass with the white central vein, and the flowers looked identical. One site even said it looked similar to corn, which is exactly what I always think of when I see it, and they showed a picture of it growing in the gravelly soil next to a railroad track!
It's actually attractive, but I think I'll pass on it, and not gather seeds from it to sow in my meadow.

Some good advice - DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT! If it is indeed Johnsongrass, it spreads like crazy, usurps those that we would prefer. Therefore, NOXIOUS WEED! ;)
