Buchloe dactyloides: starting Buffalo grass

cactusgarden

I am wanting to start some buffalo grass in my prairie garden to use around larger grasses instead of mulch to prevent runoff on the top of a slope. Not a whole lawn, just a certain difficult area that has bad runoff when watering or during heavy rain.

There is a beautiful thickly planted yard of it just down the street and it is covered with runners because the guy never mows it. I asked him if I could have some runners thinking I could start new plants this way, putting them here and there where I want them to take hold. He said I could have all I wanted.

I can't seem to find any information on line saying this will work, so before I start collecting runners and spending a lot of time trying this, I was wondering if anyone could tell me if this will work or if I am wasting my time?
