The thistle turns out to be a Poppy!

Don't ask me how it got there! The plant I thought was a thistle of some kind has turned out to be an Oriental Poppy and right behind it (bloomed today) is a smaller Red Corn Poppy (Flanders Poppy)! It was that bloom and foliage that got me to see the simularities in the Thistle looking plant to make an ID.....I KNOW I didn't plant these, but what a surprise :) I wonder if years ago someone had been growing these here...Up until last fall when I moved in the whole area was covered in black landscape plastic and dirt was thrown over the top....I must have un-earthed the seed as I pulled up the plastic and prepared the area! I looked for more but haven't seen any...I think I'll collect the seed so I can move them to another location in my bulb beds, etc.

I love this story Vera! Everyone should pull up all their black plastic.

They are so pretty!...I wish the flowers lasted longer tho..pretty cool looking seed pods anyways :)

So far I've been able to identify some Dwarf Plains Coreopsis, Blue Flax, and I think what are Black-eyed Susan's...have not seen any grasses germinating yet :(
