Baby liatris?

As I've been weeding my prairie garden, I've been pulling up small grass-like plants that, to my surprise, have a tiny bulb where the root should be. I have liatris in my garden. Could these be the babies of those plants, coming up from seed? I have no experience with liatris, so don't know if I'm on the right track. I also have little and big bluestem and Indian grass in my garden, but I wouldn't think that their seedlings would have a tiny bulb at the end, would they?

Comparing liatris seedlings to their mother is fairly easy. My pycnostachys patch has 100s of babies in a downwind swathe and there is no doubt of their parentage. Nutsedge leaves "feel" different...kinda ridgy and have sharp edges of the leaves, which liatris does not.
