What is This?

Foliage looks like flax, but the flower has 4-petals and is red with a yellow eye. It is flowering on a 4" single un-branched stem which BTW makes up the entire plant!

RE: What is This?

Hi April and Froggy,

No it isn't a cosmo...Cosmos bipinnatus have more than 4 petals and are tall and branched. I did have 2 growing last year but they never came back because I harvested all the seed for trade.
This tiny plant is less than 5" tall, has only 4 petals that are fringed at the tips (like gaillardia).

There is only 1

Well, I knew it wasn't a Cosmos...not enough petals, but it does look similar. Sorry I can't be of more help...I've got some studying to do. West of the Mississipp!

LOL April! I'm waiting for this to go to seed so I can collect. Whatever it is I want more of them.
Well guess what else I discovered yesterday in my "little prairie"? Courtesy of the birds....Opium Poppy LOL!!! Lord only knows where it came from cause there isn't any growing around me.
