Germinating Artemisia filifolia

Posted by emillersa1 Texas (My Page) on

We recently purchased sand sage (Artemisa filifolia) seeds and would like to germinate them for plants. I have read that some growers place the seeds in a frig at 50 degrees F for 30 days before germination. I would be interested to know how others germinate seeds like sand sage. Has anyone successfully grown sand sage?

I've never tried sand sage, but the advice sounds normal. For similar items, we place the seed in moist (not wet) vermiculite, store it in a sandwich bag in the fridge, take it out once a week or so to open the bag to let in fresh air, and then after the 30 days take it out of the fridge. We then leave the bag at room temperature and check it daily for sprouting seeds. As they sprout take them out of the bag and plant in a container where you will allow them to grow larger before planting out. I should add we often soak the seed overnight in water at room temperature before beginning the process.

Ed-

I can't figure out how to contact you directly so I'm asking a related, but off topic, question through this post.

Could you say where you found A filifolia seed? I've been looking for it for awhile.

thanks,
susan
